Whitney S. Thomas

Whitney S. Thomas currently serves as the Director of TRIO Upward Bound Math Science - Detroit. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Development and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration, both from Central Michigan University. As a first-generation college and graduate student, Whitney has life experience that helps her relate to the students she serves. 

Whitney enjoys the time spent getting to know her students and providing the necessary resources and support they need to achieve their goals and succeed in school and life. Thomas hopes to continue serving as a mentor and role model to her students, just as others have done for her when she, too, participated in TRIO Upward Bound in high school which prepared her for endless opportunities. 

In her free time, Whitney enjoys playing with her dog, listening to music, watching movies, hanging with family and friends, and putting together puzzles.

Brian Jackson

Program Coordinator

Brian Jackson currently serves as the Program Coordinator of TRIO Upward Bound Math Science Detroit. Jackson holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Management. He has been apart of the University Prep School District since the third grade, attending University Prep Mark Murray and University Prep Science & Math Middle School. Jackson is also a proud graduate of Renaissance High School.

Brian's experience of growing up in the inner city of Detroit and being the oldest of nine children has prepared him to understand people and the environments they are a part of. Jackson uses personal experiences to make connections with the student he works with.

Brian hopes to inspire students to be their best selves no matter the circumstances. He knows every individual has a route in life and finds joy in helping them along their journey. He has the goal of being a prominent role model in his city.

In his spare time, Brian loves journaling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
