Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions
myScholarships is a free, online scholarship application system that allows GVSU students to apply to 400+ endowed and departmental scholarships and is accessed on the GVSU scholarships webpage.
October 1 is generally a good time to begin exploring scholarships for the following academic year. This is also when myScholarships opens each year.
Organizations offering scholarships should not ask you for personal information, such as your social security number or banking information. Do not apply if there are any fees connected to the application
Most scholarships in GVSU’s myScholarships have an annual deadline of March 1; however, Non-GVSU Scholarships vary and will be listed along with other requirements.
External/Outside Scholarships are scholarships that have no affiliation to GVSU and can be accessed on the GVSU Scholarships webpage.
All scholarships should have an “eligibility requirements” section that outlines the qualifications for prospective applicants. Make sure that you meet all of the eligibility requirements before applying.
There is no limit to the number of scholarships for which you can apply to increase your chances to receive funding.
Awards through myScholarships and External/Outside Scholarships will be split between both fall and winter semesters - unless otherwise stated in the scholarship guidelines.
West Michigan Scholarships
West Michigan Alliance for Veterans (WMA4V) Housing Assistance Program - 2020-2021
The West Michigan Alliance for Veterans provides financial support to Veterans who reside in Grand Rapids and surrounding communities, including their Veterans Housing Assistance Program. This program can provide up to $500 per month toward rent or mortgage payments for honorably discharged veterans with demonstrated financial need who are enrolled full-time. This is a tangible way for the West Michigan Alliance for Veterans to make a difference in the lives of veterans (and their families) pursuing a higher education degree or skilled trades certification. The program is open to full-time/degree-seeking students, with an honorable discharge and demonstrated financial need attending GVSU, GRCC, and other institutions located in West Michigan, as determined by the WMA4V Board of Directors.
Information/Eligibility To prove financial need, you may submit a copy of your FAFSA - if your income is included; otherwise, you will need to furnish a copy of your most recent tax return.
