Academic Foundation Workstream
What is the Academic Foundation Workstream?
A subgroup of the Workday Student Project Team, which focuses on building the basic structure and framework that supports how GVSU manages its academic programs, courses, and student data.
This workstream sets up the "blueprint" of the academic structure, components such as:
- How degrees, majors, and courses are organized
- Rules for prerequisites and requirements for programs
- Academic calendars (start/end dates, terms, and sessions)
- Academic policies, like grading scales or transfer credit rules
The Academic Foundation workstream ensures the Workday Student system accurately reflects GVSU’s academic environment, so students can navigate their education effectively, and faculty and staff have the tools to manage academic records and processes efficiently.
Think of the process of building a house. This workstream’s responsibility is to develop the basement, or the strong concrete structure upon which everything else is built. Keep in mind, the basement is something you don't often revisit after the house is built as it's magnitudes more difficult. This workstream is partnering with Subject Matter Experts across the university and taking the time to focus on it on the front end.
Who is on the Academic Foundation Workstream?
