Meijer Honors Student Council Information

The Meijer Honors College Student Council encompasses three areas that assist the Honors College in opportunities for its student population, Welcome Days, Programming, Summer Overnight Orientation and the Mentor Program. The council assists in hiring the Mentors, Welcome Days planning, organizing events throughout the year and serve as the FMHC Office's "go-to" students whenever student input or help is needed. 

Mentor Program: Mentors are returning Honors upperclassmen who wish to serve as role modes/mentors for incoming honors students by assisting them during their transition into the college environment. Mentors will be assigned a small group, normally consisting of 7 to 9 incoming first year students. A Mentors primary role is to contact first year students to answer any questions they might have over the course of the summer, during move-in, and throughout their first year. Mentors will assist with new student move-in and Honors Welcome Days programming and are also expected to keep in contact their assigned students over the course of the year. 

Programming: These council members work collaboratively with the FMHC office to plan events for Honors College students throughout the academic year. They strive to make the honors community a fun and welcoming place with avenues to make friends, expand yourself, and have fun!

Summer Overnight Orientation: In the event that in-person New Student Advising & Registration happens during the summer, these members will help plan and organize events for incoming first year students to spend the night on campus and learn more about FMHC. 

Welcome Days: Welcome Days are events planned for incoming first year Honors College students typically held the 2 days after move in. The student council members assist the FMHC office in vision casting, planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of all Welcome Days events.
