General Information - Hardware

Information Technology evaluates both Macintosh and Windows computers to offer approved models that meet security requirements, functionality, network connectivity, and compatibility with classroom technology. The replacement of computers is contingent upon many factors including curriculum, security requirements, performance of software applications, equipment age, and repair history.

The Technology Acquisition Policy (TAP) allows faculty and staff to purchase technology under $500 that does not connect to the network or store/transmit data. In addition to being able to purchase qualifying items from Amazon or Office Depot through a requisition in Workday, select Apple and PC peripherals can be purchased directly through GVSU Laker Marketplace in either Allendale or Grand Rapids or online. Each item can be purchased using a GVSU expense card. It is important to note the TAP restricts the purchase of endpoint hardware, including desktops, laptops, tablets, iPads, printers, and mobile devices, regardless of price. Purchasing these items with a GVSU expense card or via a Workday requisition is considered a violation of university policy. If you are looking for technology not available in the Technology Acquisition stock options, please complete a quote request.
