Campus Health
The GVSU community has access to a number of different health care resources and services both on campus and within the West Michigan community. We understand that providing quality health care is a priority in order to thrive as a Laker.
View the video above to learn about the Campus Health Center.
The Campus Health Center is operated by Trinity Health and is located across from the water tower on the south side of campus in Allendale.

Campus Health Center - FAQ
- No. The Health Center is not closing. It is transitioning from being operated by Trinity Health to a self-operated model managed by GVSU.
Summer 2025: We plan to maintain current hours with adjustments based
on student demand.
Fall 2025: Hours may shift to better align with
class and work schedules. Updates will be posted regularly (on this site).
The Health Center will remain open and operational throughout the transition period. We kindly ask for your patience and flexibility as we work to expand our services. The full transition and service enhancements are expected to be completed by the first day of Fall 2025 classes.
For immediate care or additional support during this time, please
refer to local community health resources available here:

Beginning May 1, 2025, and throughout the summer, the GVSU Health Center will provide services for lower acuity medical needs. This includes things like minor illnesses, injuries, allergic reactions, and other routine concerns.
While not all services will be fully launched by May, we are building toward a comprehensive, university-operated model. Full services will expand in time for Fall 2025.
We appreciate your patience as we work through the final phases of setup during this transition. Please know we are committed to maintaining high-quality care throughout.
Shortly after May 1, 2025, students will have access to a 24/7 nurse triage line to support your health needs even when the clinic is closed.
=W After-Hours Nurse Line
You’ll be able to:
-
Speak with a registered nurse any time, day or night
-
Get guidance on symptoms and next steps
-
Learn whether you should wait to be seen, go to urgent care, or seek emergency care
Details on how to access the nurse line will be shared via our website and social media before launch.
=» Virtual Visits (In Development)
We are also exploring virtual visit options as part of our expanded care model. These services will be phased in as technology and staffing allow — stay tuned for updates!
= Need Immediate Care?
You can always visit a local urgent care or hospital if needed. A

Locations & Local Services
We expect to continue accepting the same insurance plans as before the transition. However, because insurance contracting takes time, we may not be able to bill insurance until Fall 2025.
In the meantime:
-
Students may choose to pay out-of-pocket at the time of service.
-
You may be able to submit a receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
-
In some cases, we may be able to back-bill insurance once contracts are finalized — meaning if you receive care before billing is active, we could submit the bill retroactively to your insurance once we are credentialed. This is dependent on your specific insurance plan’s policy and timing restrictions. You will need to contact your insurance payor to see if this is possible.
To support students during this transitional period and after, we are also working on:
-
Sliding scale options based on income
-
Flexible payment plans
-
A voluntary health fee (in development), which would provide access to basic services without the need for insurance at the point of care.
Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that all students—regardless of their insurance status—can access the care they need. We’re exploring every option to support uninsured, underinsured, and out-of-network students.
Yes. Maintaining allergy injections is a top priority, we are working hard to avoid any lapse in coverage for these services.
We anticipate being able to schedule appointments beyond one month in advance by May 12, 2025.
There is currently no mandatory health fee at GVSU, so services at the Campus Health Center are billed to insurance when possible. Students may be responsible for copays, coinsurance, or out-of-pocket costs depending on their insurance plan.
For uninsured or underinsured students, we are working to create more accessible pricing models during the transition, including:
-
Transparent pricing
-
Sliding scale fees (under development)
-
Payment plans
As we move to a GVSU-operated model, we’re also exploring the option of a voluntary prepaid health fee to reduce financial barriers and improve access to care for all students.
If you’re unsure about costs, we encourage you to reach out to us directly at studenthealthservices@gvsu.edu — we’re happy to talk through your options.
We are exploring the feasibility of bringing X-ray services back later in Fall 2025, depending on demand and logistical needs.
This was not due to any negative relationship. GVSU is shifting to a self-operated model to:
- Gain greater control over services
- Better align offerings with student and GVSU community needs
- Improve access and affordability for all students
A GVSU-operated Campus Health Center will be a comprehensive, student-centered clinic that goes far beyond basic care.
Here's what you can expect once things are fully up and running:
<å Full-Service Primary & Urgent Care
