Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Department is committed to upholding the pillars of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This commitment has been enhanced by the development of the Physician Assistant Studies Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Advisory Committee. This group of students and faculty are resolved to promote, advise, and assess the program in these four areas.
The GVSU PAS Department is resolved to support the following actions:
- Hire diverse faculty and staff
- Accept a diverse cohort of students
- Implement a curriculum that includes education on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Promote a culture of inclusivity
- Continuously assess actions toward these efforts

In a desire to be more inclusive, the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program, in conjunction with the PAS students has developed the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Advisory Committee. This committee includes students and faculty that are committed to placing the pillars of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the forefront our program.
In order to uphold these pillars, the GVSU PA JEDI committee is resolved to encourage and support the following actions: hiring diverse faculty and staff; accepting a diverse cohort of students; implementing curriculum that includes education on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; promoting a culture of inclusivity within the program; and continuously assessing actions towards this effort.
The faculty and students at GVSU are actively engaged in providing education about health inequities and disparities using an inclusive and holistic approach. The GVSU PA program supports the tenets of cultural competence, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice for all seeking health care.
PAS Program Action Plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The PAS Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee’s goal is to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program. Therefore, the committee developed an action plan to achieve that goal.
PAS JEDI Committee Student Action Plan
- Educate, inform, and engage students on issues of diversity.
- Support the PAS Program Admission Committee to recruit, admit, matriculate, and graduate a diverse cohort of students.
- Deliver a rigorous curriculum that includes diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice education.
- Regularly review the PAS program website to ensure inclusiveness and diversity.

- Educate, inform, and engage faculty on issues of diversity.
- Support the PAS Program Curriculum Committee to ensure a rigorous curriculum that includes diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice education.
- Support PAS program faculty search committees to ensure the recruitment, hiring, and retention of diverse faculty.
