Including embracing diversity and inclusion through our actions and words. - Spread the word about available resources at GVSU to create a safe and healthy space for everyone. Candidate Bio

I am Grayson Rodgers, a freshman pursuing a dual major in Sociology and Social Work, along with a minor in Human Rights. During my time in the Student Senate, I joined the advocacy committee to serve as a liaison for the LGBT Center and to help create a safe space for students. In this role, I have focused on listening to the LGBT Center's needs and collaborating to maximize resources for anyone who requires them. I have also volunteered at events such as the Wear The Rainbow Event, which helps students find clothing that reflects their true identity. Additionally, I am involved in various organizations, including the Alzheimer's Awareness Club, and TRIO Classic as a first-generation student, and as a student assistant at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Through these experiences, I have grown my communication, transparency, and leadership skills. A few key issues I want to face on campus include understanding how poverty and social class impact students' education, ensuring that individuals in the LGBTQ+ community feel represented and heard, and creating an environment where first-generation students can learn and thrive. By remaining actively involved, I hope to reduce the shame and stigma surrounding issues faced by GVSU students. My overarching goal is to build a supportive and inclusive community with the help of students, faculty, and staff.
