Candidate Bio

Hello! My name is Michael Eshleman. I was born and raised in Hudsonville Michigan just down the road from GVSU and I graduated from Hudsonville High School magna cum laude. I'm currently a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry on the Pre-Med track. Outside of Student Senate, you can find me rock climbing at the GVSU rock wall, studying around campus, working on my car, or exploring the night sky with one of my telescopes. I joined the Student Senate at the start of my freshman year's winter semester and hit the ground running, learning the ropes from fellow senators and engaging with campus liaisons to gain a deeper understanding of how our university operates behind the scenes. Since being sworn in, I have worked with liaisons from various departments, including Parking Services, Admissions, and Housing, to ensure that student voices are heard and their interests represented. If elected Student Body President, I'll work tirelessly to ensure every Laker's voice is heard-regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background. My platform includes implementing a "no-class" policy on Election Day, ensuring everyone has the ability to vote, lowering parking permit costs for both residents and commuters, promoting open and transparent dialogue between students and administration, and expanding mental health resources to support the well-being of all students. I believe true progress happens when we work together and listen to one another. With your support, we can create a campus environment where everyone feels respected, empowered, and ready to succeed. Thank you for your consideration, and I would be honored to earn your vote!
