Running to strengthen student representation and ensure our voices lead to meaningful change. Focused on strengthening communication between students and administration to address campus issues effectively. Advocate for more transparency in university policies that affect students. Prioritizing improvements of campus resources such as dining, housing, and mental health services. Fostering a more engaged and inclusive campus through expanding student involvement opportunities. Committed to accountability in Student Senate to ensure our initiatives lead to real, measurable results.
My name is Ty Vanlerberghe, and I am prepared to lead. I first applied to Student Senate during the fall of my freshman year. I was a first-year student eager to uplift the voices of my peers and use my history in advocacy work to facilitate change. When I joined, I took this opportunity and ran with it. Since joining Student Senate, I served my first year as a Senator on our Public Relations Committee, helping Senate increase its transparency after restructuring, and improving student awareness of Senate as a resource on campus. I undeniably grew within this role, was elected to the Student Senate cabinet last April, and have been the Chair of the Public Relations Committee for the current school year. Here, I have led a committee of ten Senators, spearheaded efforts to educate students about resources and events on campus, enhanced Student Senate's important relationships with administration and stakeholders, and worked alongside other cabinet members to guide Student Senate through one of its most impactful and productive years yet. As a first-generation, financial aid-dependent, working student, I have promised to bring strong, diverse perspectives to the table when working on behalf of students. I have used my experience facing challenges and roadblocks in many leadership roles across campus. These experiences have helped me to be a better representative in my executive board work, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the University Student Legal Services Taskforce, and the '24 and '25 United Student Governances Conference. I know what it is like to face challenges as a student, and that is what carries the passion that I have for representing them. I look forward to continuing the strong leadership of the Student Senate, acting as a true advocate for the student body, and building a vibrant, results-driven campus.
